Normal my co-worker won't talk to me?

I feel I'm easy to talk to and easy going in general so it's weird to me.

I'm a woman, she's a woman. Whenever I try to make conversation, she either ignores me or just answers with one word responses.

The only conversation I've had with her was when she said she was visiting Germany and said she didn't know she had to exchange money before going as she didn't realize the currency was different over there than here in the US. It was an awkward 1 min convo. I try to make jokes with her and she doesn't smile , remains dead serious and I honestly can't understand it when I have to work with her.

And oh tried to talk to her about the presidential election once because someone else in the room was talking about it with me, tried to engage her and she just said i don't waste my time learning about people running for president i just vote with my husband. And she's laughed at me before when I was trying to explain something to her, saying I was wrong then she turned to me two mins later and said nevermind.

Is it normal ?

    If it had not occurred to her that Germany uses a different currency, she does not sound very knowledgeable about the world. And about laughing and saying you're wrong and then saying 'nevermind'... that seems slightly desperate, maybe even infantile.

    There's a possibility you might just be dealing with someone gifted with little natural intelligence or curiosity about the world, and who feels insecure about her shortcomings. Insecure people often try to bring others down.

    She sounds like an idiot.

    Also, it sounds like she isn't interested in small talk. Given that she's probably an idiot I'd say you're not missing out. Just stop trying to talk to her.

    If I were you I'd stop communicating with her except for necessary work exchanges. If she's so stupid she thought Germany's currency was in US Dollars she doesn't sound very bright anyway.

      Actually i have traveled a lot and every country in the world takes US dollars. Why would you assume that makes this woman stupid?? She sounds smart to me.

        That's not what I said: there's an obvious difference between a country's currency and whether or not it accepts currency from other countries.

    She works at the same place you do. Does that mean she has to engage in banal conversation with you?
