some of it had been replaced over the years but if I'm not mistaken a lot of it was incredibly old/original. I heard recently that they actually don't even have large enough trees in all of France to replace some of the wooden beams ...they will have to import new large lumber. funny to think that large growth trees don't even exists in France anymore... like they did when they built the thing.

oak trees grow slow and only a certain percentage are straight enough to mill into big beams
meanwhile theres rotten trim boards all over my house that aint 40 years old for fucks sake
