My opinion is that it's a resurfacing of the strong sex-negative, Puritanical streak that runs though American culture, mixed up with a holdover of 19th Century quackery that held that sperm was a vital fluid and expelling it depleted the male body's energy.
Too much of anything isn't a good idea, but it's interesting how these "No xxx" things generally involve stuff that Puritans hate, such as sex and booze.
EDIT: Just checked NNN on Reddit - the highly reliable source of valuable and always accurate information - and learned about Destroy Dick December, where you're supposed to come the same number of times as the date. This is a meme I fully support, although I think stocking up on a couple litres of lubricant to prevent friction-burns might be a good idea.

I figured No Nut November was another like bdsm thing such as Locktober. I just wear a chastity cage all the time though so both months are basically the same as the rest of the year lol.
