Nightmares from injury?

I recently have been having stress dreams and because I've had my leg sliced open from a yard work accident (a piece of rusted tin tangled in a branch got me.i didn't feel it or even know I was bleeding until I started walking and my gash was jiggling and the blood was cold feeling running down my leg.)I got stuck by a tetanus vaccine and something to numb me while I got twenty two stiches, now I'm not fat but I'm low-key surprised the tin didn't get to any muscle or bone but when it was open (this part trumatized me)the insides of people's body's all bloody look like ground beef and seeing the doctor stick a few needles in there with my leg tingling and feeling him stitch it up makes me never want to clean my yard again.ever since I'll occasionally get a nightmare about this but it's usually a paralysis dream with he doctor looking scary as shit.anyone ever had something similar happen to them?

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

It sounds as if you could well have PTSD, in which case it would be a good idea to have some therapy if it doesn't ease soon. You didn't say how recently this injury happened.

It happened almost a year ago,I don't think I have PTSD but I'm definitely paranoid of yard work.i was thinking about therapy as i have a tendency to have a lot of stress induced nightmares when I do sleep but I think time could heal it(maybe?) I don't have anyone around me to talk to about this. I'm trying to get over it but I can't even look at ground beef anymore,I can't believe we look like that. Like ew can't we just be made out of glitter?what do you think could be a healthy coping mechanism?

You mightn't think you have PTSD, but you certainly have some of the signs and if they're not receding nearly a year after your injury please get yourself some therapy: that's exactly what I think could be a step towards working out a healthy coping mechanism.

By the way, was this an employment related injury? If so, your employer should be supporting you.

  • I can see why it would continue to bother you and it would probably me too cause that stuff usually grosses me out and would be a memory idk if I could forget. Ive had to have stitches and stuff but to see it open just 🤮. When I read this, ptsd kinda crossed my mind when it’s something that terrifies you still and makes you have bad dreams and avoid situations. With time it’ll get better it’s probably a fairly fresh thing I take it.

Its kinda fresh,I wouldn't say it's the first time I've seen gore before because my sister was impaled with a stick from a scooter accident and the skin on her arms thighs and palms hung like sheets of semi melted cheese but it didn't scare me and my cousin James foot got ate by the lawnmower when he feel in a ditch but it's different when it's on you for sure.im not sure how to stop bad thoughts from happening, therapy is hard to get out where I'm at

      • Hmm I’m not sure what else you could do 🤔 but I bet you it’ll get better with time.

I injured my left toe very badly some years back, dropped hundred pound stone on it, it was left hanging by a piece of meat, i went to emergency ward in the middle of night, i needed many stitches in that toe, and ive lost most of the function and strength in that toe. They anesthetized my toe, removed two of my nails, and stitched the toe back together.

I and the rest of emergency ward were impressed how calmly i handled that situation. Overall the experience made me a braver man.
