Never had sex but im not sure if it was a real one!

i had a boy friend who was much older than me and i did never liked the way he looked but i never had a boyfriend before him and somehow we started dating. he had been married before and was experienced more than me and for me it was really important not to lose my virginity to anyone else than my future husband but im not sure if i have lost it already with him. he was telling me that he wanted to marry me and that was giving me trust although my family would never accept him. one day when we were kissing in his room he was on top or me and acting as we are having sex but i wasnt undressed so he placed his penies on my v..... but i dint allow it to go into mine and it went one for a few moment then suddenly i felt a bit of pain and i pushed him away, the next thing i saw was a bit of blood and i started crying. I did not feel his penies completely gone through but i saw blood when made me so upset and uncofortable. he said i did not lose my virginity but im not sure.... we seperated after 10 months being together because he had 5 children and his oldest daughter was 20 nearly my age but im really worried now. can anyone tell me what happened than?
