Need advice on workplace fashion

Why do people wear something different every day instead of buying ten or twenty of the same item of clothing? I just want to understand the psychology behind clothes selection. Is it to ensure others that you are wearing clean clothes? What makes someone decide on one item of clothing over another on a particular morning? I don't like the idea of making subjective decisions and outwardly expressing that flawed decision making process.
