Personally I'm in treatment for Addiction, and I'm 165 days sober. I go to groups for Domestic Violence once a week and Drug and Alcohol groups every other day of the week. Support, respect, and patience needs to be shown, and it sounds like that NA group was lacking. There are some meetings where the people are more toxic than the problem. Your friend ought to search for better meetings and ask a treatment center for a list of meetings in your area and which ones they prefer.
I know a lot of NA meetings that are easier to get a hook up from than to recover. Watch out and keep in mind that not all meetings are so abrasive.
