How on earth does court ordered attendance at a 12 step group work when the whole basis of the groups is that people are there because THEY want to change, not because a court is ordering them to? I suppose it's better than jail but I'm not convinced it would do any good in the long term.
And I agree with RoseIsabella, if you were there to support a friend that's all you should've said. Also, whoever told you binge drinking isn't alcoholism has a strange definition of alcoholism: does your binge drinking affect your health (yes it does, whether or not you know it yet); your relationships; your finances; your work? Those are the questions to ask yourself not how often you drink.
My alcohol assessment was about 8 years ago.
They said I wasn't quite an alcoholic because I wasn't drinking all the time and it wasn't causing me problems other than irresponsibly driving, which I don't do anymore.
I still binge drink though, which means when alcohol is available I drink it all, but I do the same thing with food and smoking.
If its effecting my health I'm not aware of it.
I know it doesn't effect my relationships because I am friendly when I drink and anything stupid I do while drinking, I would have done anyways.
I could see it effecting my finances, but so does a lot of things.
I'm just a very impulsive person, but I'm not dependent on drinking because I don't have a problem when its not available.
