Names you’re tired of hearing?

Occasionally I’m slightly annoyed thinking about the people lacking in originality picking from the same 5 names to call their kid. I hope this isn’t offensive to anyone. (I know many of these are traditional/biblical and often familial names but that doesn’t make them not obnoxious.) Names are listed in descending order, 1 being the worst and 15 being the most tolerable.

Boy’s names:
1. Alexander
2. Jacob
3. Caden
4. Connor
5. Mason
6. Tucker
7. Tyler
8. James
9. Joshua
10. David
11. Michael
12. Johnathan
13. Ethan
14. Daniel
15. Joseph

Girl’s names:
1. Emma
2. Nikki
3. Isabella/Isabelle
4. Harper
5. Mary/Maria
6. Erin
7. Miranda
8. Riley
9. Samantha
10. Taylor
11. Helen
12. Hailey
13. Ava/Eva
14. Sophia
15. Barbara

Do you agree with my selections? What names are you sick of?

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

    • Same here, I considered adding that one to my list but decided there were worse; at least Katie is a pleasant sounding name

The only name that truly bothered me is “Conrad”. My cousin was called that and his mother’s northern accent combined with the shrillness of her voice was intolerable.

    Addison, Madison, Arianna, Eva/Ava,

And of course the recycled names that were popular from way back like Helen, Sophia, Emma...

I think the most over used name in history is Jenny/Jennifer. It's like the parents just said, "Well I can't come up with anything good either, let's just call her Jennifer".

Ha, for me it's more the ridiculously complex spelling for otherwise normal names a lot of bullshit-ass "trendy" parents use than the actual names themselves.

I have read that in some cases it is because the parents didn't know the proper spelling for a name.

That is why some spellings are butchered to crap, like "Buraeyan" instead of "Brian".
Even if they are trying to be trendy, what they don't get is that the kid will then be cursed to have to explain the spelling or pronunciation of the name constantly. In every class we went to in school, there was always that one student who had to explain the "unique" spelling.

Ever notice also that often times the more exotic a woman's name is, the uglier she is?

LOL, Buraeyan. Sounds like the name of an Enya song.

Yeah it could be. I just made up that spelling out of nowhere.

In terms of men’s names Tom, Ben and Matt are the most over-used. For women Emily, Hannah and Alex. I wouldn’t say it was annoying per say but it is confusing, have some originality parents!

The name Mabel for a girl...2 people I know named their daughters Mabel, the one spelled in Maybel to be fancy I suppose. That name is AWFUL!!! Also, a few people I know named their daughter Nevaeh. It's "heaven" spelled backwards and I think represents a parent trying too hard to be different.

Words being used as names annoy me unless they are established names such as flower, plant and jewel names or names such as Dawn and Mark.

I mostly don't like names of people I really, really dislike. There are only a handful of those. The names just remind me of them.

I have to agree that the "Aiden" like names are starting to get pretty old. Plus, one of the people I dislike a lot has one of those variations (and no, it's not a 10-year-old kid, lol, it's an actual grown adult who is slightly older than myself).

Not usually a fan of the trend of using surnames for first names, either. I suppose some are okay, but there are so many ending in "son" or "ton".

Of course, anything really weirdly spelled, too, especially if the spelling doesn't even resemble the pronunciation or there's a bunch of random extra letters thrown in.

I'm fine with all of the names. They are better than new age millenial names for their kids.

I don't care for the name Caleb at all! I prefer the name Angus. I don't think there's anything wrong with names like Sophia, and or Isabella/Isabelle, in fact I love those two names. Harper is kind of a crappy name.

In my opinion Terra is a good female name.
