My son recently told me that he had changed his name, both his first and last name. When I asked him why he did that, he told me that his old name was stupid, and I need to deal with it. That really hurt my feelings, because I was the one who named him in the first place. Is it normal for him to do that?
Some people just don't like their name. It's why you're legally allowed to change it in the first place.
I always thought it would be a massive insult to my parents if I changed my name.

People go through an identity crisis all the time. From your vague description, it sounds like teenage angst and you should follow up with why he chose the new name and what he didnt like bout the old one.
So me and my family are about as white as it gets. So what does my brother do? Names his child something you would see on a Latina or something. That kid is going to bullied mercilessly over her name. My parents gave me a fuckwad name as well. I changed it as well
It's weird because you get used to it. I'd feel like a liar if I changed my name because it's who I am
The dirtiest trick ever played on me was played by my own mother because she named me. Hated it so I changed it.
