I'm 18, but my parents think they have control over my contacts. Just because I don't "need" to have someone in my contacts, they think they can just tell me to remove it. And my dad thinks he can physically take my laptop to work with him so I can't use it if I don't do what he says, when that's stealing.
That is not at all normal. You're an adult now, they are being way over-invasive; the people who you choose to talk to are your business, nobody elses. Your parents need to realise that you are an adult now, and that you deserve some privacy. Just because you live under their roof, doesn't mean that they own you. You need to let them know that you don't like what they're doing.
I wonder if there's a back-story here that we're not getting. But I don't know, so I can't judge. Based solely on what you posted, no, I don't think it's normal. You're an adult. These are your decisions. Your parents can ask you if they want, but you're under no obligation to even give them an answer. It's your business.
Wth, do they know how this can effect your relationship with them? Unless your behaving badly lately this is uncalled fir but they do have the rights.
OP isn't asking what he should do about it, he's asking whether or not it's normal.
It's not normal, your parents are being invasive and manipulative.
Simple answer, if you have a job move out, if you dont have a job, get a job and move out. if there is something in this story you didn't put down like past possible preditor stuff, i can kinda understand but other than that, seriously. you need space, you will go mad if you dont get it. Find some friends and move. that or take their presious belongings with you when you go out so that they understand what they do to you.. sometimes that works also. and their house their rules is bullshit. sorry but its true. Its like saying my house my ability to fuck you up. sorry for my language but its true. Even if they are your parents their being way to invasive and seriously need to learn to back off.
Overly controlling parents. It happens sadly. Either you'll go with it or rebel. But hey you're 18 now, probably not much longer till you can move out and be free.
If you don't like it get out and get your own house and things! As long as dad pays the cost; he's your boss and anything going on in his house is his business!!!
