My parents don't respect my privacy?

they use any possible opportunity to invade my privacy. They raid my room semi-regularly, which is made evident by objects occasional moved or missing. They also are threatening to reformat my entire computer because they don't have admin rights. Whenever I ask them why they are doing this, I can tell they are lying through their teeth, and yet they say I'm the one being dishonest. I can't take much more of this, and I don't want to lose everything on my computer. Please help.

right keep it up and you won't have any internet. what then? when you were born a router wasnt shoved up your ass, if need be, they can live two years without internet very painless can you do that. get ready to do that. because with parents its always checkmate and done.

It's not normal. First you gotta understand why they're acting like this. Maybe they're worried about you, which is probably the case. Try spending more time with them. Show them that you don't care and that you've got nothing to hide, but at the same time tell them you need some time alone. Reverse psychology should be helpful at times like these.

Kasei provided, IMHO, the best advice here so far. Look, it IS their house and it IS their rules. Get used to it. You're going to have someone else calling the shots in your life for MANY years to come. Yes, you'll have more autonomy as you get older and start paying your own way in life, but until then, you need to adjust your attitude to deal with the realities of family life. Kasei's advice to show them you have nothing to hide is excellent (but you'd better be sure to offload anything that you DO wanna hide). You can explain that you felt your privacy was being ignored and you still want to address that, but that you understand their concern so you've set them as admins. Unless they're in IT, in most cases you'll probably know better how to find stuff on the machine than they will.

As people said - it's two more years. Just decide NOT to let it ruin your life. Work with them and get past it. You'll all be better off.

          Where are those kids

          Comment Hidden ( show )
  • They are not your parents.
They are the people that kidnapped you from your birth parents when you were an infant.
    Run away.

Your parents have to respect your privacy. If there are nosy parents, their kids won't trust them.

Do the same as they do to you. Start moving and hiding stuff from their room. If they format your computer, format also their computer. Hide the remote control of the TV. This game can be played on both side. They have to respect your privacy.

Talk to them respectfully, sit down with them (if you can) and ask if they could stop. Try asking why they are doing things and if you can sort out a resolution of privacy during hours of the day. If not. Fuck it. Go batshit crazy
