My parents stopped abusing me 5 months ago and recently they claimed that they never physically abused me. But they DID! I was emotionally and physically abused! They're telling me my suffering never happened?
Am I crazy?
Do my parents not remember?
Are they lying to keep away from the law?
I find the definition of 'mental abuse' from the abused quite interesting. One girl claimed mental abuse when her parents took away her phone as punishment. Another thought being grounded was horrible 'abuse'.
Until you have been a parent, especially one who must deal with a rebellious child or worse, I don't think you are a very good judge of what comprises abuse, rather than punishment.
I'm actually a very good child. When my parents stopped abusing me they said they were very sorry and didn't realize I was suffering inside because of how good a child I was. I never complained, so they took me for granted. A lot of times my Mom would make fun of my inperfections and tell me I'll fail in school and life overall. My Dad would beat me up but only when I got a very low grade, which I guess was my fault.
Beating a child up is never warranted. I do believe in spanking in extreme cases IF the child responds to them as intended, but some do not, so that then is not an acceptable form of punishment.
Often, misguided parents with the very best of intentions, will use negativity to try to stimulate a child. Again, it depends on the child how effective it can be.
I'm sorry you had it so tough, but until you've been a parent, I don't think you can understand how difficult and mistake prone that job can be.
I think it might be a good idea for you to keep a journal/diary. Do it electronically so you can password protect it and or back it up on a flash drive. I was suicidal too when I was younger. I wish I had more carefully chronicled my life, but I've had a very difficult time, because my mother was very fond of reading my diary, notes from friends, mail and listening to my phone calls. I think if my mom could have bugged the confessional at church she would have. I do love her, and have perhaps somewhat forgiven her, but it's messed me up with regard to trust issues.
