It's normal, but speaking from experience, it's a horrible idea.
I spent three years buying whatever I wanted with the credit card my mom gave me, from clothes to presents for my then-boyfriend to nice dinners out. My mom didn't want to look like a jerk, but she honestly couldn't afford it. She eventually went ballistic over something unrelated and cut me off completely. She's never come out and said it, but I really think she was mad about my spending and the cost of my education, and how I acted like I was entitled to it all.
I was left to figure out how to pay $4,000 worth of debt at a 15% interest rate with no real job in addition to getting student loans to pay for my last year of college, and my relationship with my mom was trashed. It's been over a decade, and it still has not recovered. We are virtually estranged. I've since paid off the credit card debt, but I still have student loan debt from that last year of school.
DON'T DO THIS. You might think your relationship with your parents isn't important or just want to live for the moment, but believe me-- in a matter of years, you will regret this. Contrary to popular belief, life does not end after college, and you will want to have a clean slate with good credit and no debt, and you will want a close relationship with your parents in your post-education years.
My parents credit card is like free money, IIN to spend on partying
