It sounds like kind of a loser. I have always been the one to go dutch, but every man that I have ever been with was always the type to pull out his wallet before I am able to reach for my card, even if the outing was my idea =/
I'd be wary of a guy like him. I took my husband out when we were dating and often paid when I took him out (old Southern courtesy, if you initiate the date, you pay the check), but he took me out and bought me gifts as well. Your situation sounds... odd.
