AA and their affiliates NA & CA are snake oil salesmen. They promise to liberate you from your addiction, then give you another one. This new addiction is called AA. If you don't work the steps or attend enough meetings, they come and haunt you with their fake sincerity. Like bad drug dealers. The problem? Nobody is clinically trained. It's a lot of people with issues and no clinician, like a psychologist. Drink or Drugs are NOT the users problem. Drink or Drugs are a manifestation of underlying issues within that person. Drink and Drugs when taken to addictive levels are being used to fix feelings. Each 'member' (cozy isn't it?) has very different issues yet they offer a blanket treatment program. One size fits all. Can that be true? Are you addicted for the same reasons Dave is that is sat across from you? Of course not. You exhibit same behavior patterns but your issues will be different. If you want to find recovery; Look deep within yourself first and ask: Why do i do what i do. Only honest answers here will be productive. No justifications like "I do it because I'm bored". When you think you know why you really do what you do, seek professional help with one to one support. All AA will do is ask you to open yourself wide open in a meeting, say thanks, then send you home to contemplate what you just told a bunch of strangers. This is dangerous. Professional services will treat you as an individual and also put in place what are known as 'wrap around' services. Addiction needs lots of area's of you life rebuilding. It's never about the drink or drugs. Good luck and remember; Ultimately you are master of your own destiny. People can support you but you gotta do the work. The will to want change must drive every fiber of your being and always be at the forefront of your mind. It's possible, but its rarely easy. Oh and remember to pat yourself on the back when you achieve something, muggles don't get it and will forget to say well done. You must do this.
