My mom worries more about my hair than i do.

Ok, so until just about a year ago, all I did with my hair was wash it and comb it (I'm a girl, by the way) and I was fine with that. I thought it looked ok. But about a year ago, my mom said I needed to try to style my hair more. So she told me to blow dry it. So I started dong that, and I do admit, it looks better blow-dried. And that's really all I wanted to do with it. But now she's trying to get me to style it more and put headbands and all that stuff in it. I really don't want to do that, it would take too much time and it looks stupid on me. is it normal and what should I do?

Is It Normal?

  • Do what you like. It's your hair your life not your mom's

  • Maybe a trip to the hair dressers would help, get a really nice cut and style. Your mum will like it (hopefully) and will Not want you to put it in a pony tail or whatever

  • I don't understand all the negative comments blaming her mother abt her own insecrurites. That's a laod of BS. Maybe she just wants her daughter to look nice and wants to teach her to take care of herself. She's a mother. Not a jelous bestfriend. Ignore all the hatred peOple are giving out to you're mother. Remember you're mother only wants the best for her children not the worst

  • Yes it's normal for a mother to want you to look nice. It's also normal for you not to always agree with her. If you are completely happy with your hair, go with it the way it is. If you're not happy, but you can't stand the idea of fussing with it, you might try asking females with a similar hair type to yours (thick and curly, thin, strait) how they like to do their hair when they're in a hurry or feeling lazy. There's no need to fuss too much with your hair if you don't find it fun.

I'm sure your mom means well, so does mine, but I have my dad's hair and she taught me to take care of my hair wrong, unroll some girls at school suggested something much better when I was 16. I don't hate my hair anymore.

  • Its no big deal. She cares and is trying to be helpful - and - she may even know a few more things about women's style and fashion (not just girls) than you.

  • The only thing I do for my hair is wash and comb it out too. The trick is though is I got my hair layered, so when dry it looks styled. My mom always wanted my hair in a really high pony tail and head bands until I decided to get layers and leave it be. I'm a no fuss girl and it's your hair. There's a way to be natural and stylish. So, you can take her suggestions into consideration, but do what works for you girl.

  • Even though your mum's probably just being nice and encouraging you to try out different things, you should tell her nicely and gently that although you do honestly appreciate all she's doing/done for you, you prefer your hair how you like it.

It's your hair and therefore yours to do what you want with it.
