My dad or step dad or whatever he should be called at this point was the same way, he couldn't see beyond himself
It's a tough spot to be in, in my case he ended it because he didn't want to explain anything or compromise, just dutiful obedience, like how a vacuum is given attention only when you need it and is put back in the closet when you're done with it
