My mom could've died tonight

So my sister calls me and tells me that our mom came close to getting shot tonight on account of their horrible tempers. According to her, my idiot of a mother kept arguing and approaching the guy with the gun instead of getting in the car and leaving. They're both here safe and sound but seriously, what the fuck...

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • I really need to watch the Blade Trilogy, a line from the last movie that has stuck with me

"Are you ready to die, mother fucker?"

Keeps me from doing stupid things like arguing with customers or approaching strangers with guns pointed at me telling me to leave

Did she think he would have let your sister go if he shot her? Did she think she couldn't be shot if she tried talking it out? A concussion would have shut her up while also saving him on a murder charge

Her behavior is reprehensible, it's showing her she can do stuff like this and it's okay and it could do the same for you and your sister, but you seem more aware that actions have consequences and the best action to take isn't always the one we want to or the one that feels good

I'm guessing you two are in your twenties and she's in her forties or fifties? It's likely behavior built up over time, which would make it harder to keep in check or for her to even acknowledge as a problem

I'm amazed at your Mom she is brave as hell. And glad they made it home safely.
Just next time, for her safety and your sister, leave immediately no questions asked.

    • My dad or step dad or whatever he should be called at this point was the same way, he couldn't see beyond himself

It's a tough spot to be in, in my case he ended it because he didn't want to explain anything or compromise, just dutiful obedience, like how a vacuum is given attention only when you need it and is put back in the closet when you're done with it

I’m sorry you’re in this situation and it’s understandable that you’re feeling overwhelmed, shocked and angry. We can’t control our relatives’ stupid decisions and sometimes that knowledge is agonising. Have you got any close friends you could talk to about this?

Make yourself a hot tea from me.
