  • Yeah, those categories have no real basis in anything, they're just some unproven categories that some dickhead came up with with no real basis.

Worried about being shy? Work on being outgoing. Very little about anyone's personality is set in stone.

    • Lol people seem to misunderstand the whole MBTI thing. It's not saying there are only 16 different personalities in the world. they are just very broad categories. the letters have to do with things such as preferred methods of socializing, perception of surroundings, work ethic and that sort of thing. when there is only 2 sides of a spectrum, it's likely that everyone will be more to one side than the other. It's no different than categorizing someone as "shy", in fact that's what the first letter is about. Also I'm not saying it's any more than just a theory, but I think you (and anyone else that totally rejects the idea that people can be categorized) are being a little harsh...

that said, the OP shouldn't put that much importance on the MBTI results. I think it's more supposed to help in understanding how one's mind works and how to get the best out of life situations, not to limit oneself...

      • "when there is only 2 sides of a spectrum"

I'd argue that there aren't in this case.

          • The one we're discussing. Attempting to reduce abstract concepts to qualitative spectrums is an empty goal.

            • So, you're okay with classifying someone as shy, but not introverted? or is it the other spectrums you have a problem with..?

Would you prefer instead of simply "INFJ" they said: "I am introverted, and I prefer to look at the future rather than living in the present. My decisions are based more on people's feelings rather than everything black and white; and I plan out all my decisions rather than waiting to see how it goes"?

That's all it stands for... very broad categories, yet helpful when applied correctly...

              • I'm saying that by assuming these things as inherent (this its who i am) and by leaving them unqualified, you're just pissing in the wind. Its worse than that though, its like you're pissing on your shoe.
