My husband likes to be punched. Not in a sexual way or anything, it just calms him down from panic attacks or otherwise stressful situations. I also sometimes surprise him when I'm massaging his back with it. Just a fair few quick punches and he's laughing. It's funny, but is it normal?
As long as it's consensual, it's not causing him real physical harm, not leaving bruises that he needs to explain away, and he's not reciprocating by smacking you around when you don't want that, on you jolly well go.
The psychology of masochism is complicated, but I wonder if his brain just needs a jolt to pull it out of negative, self-reinforcing spirals at times.
