My husband is racist? and most if my family?

My husband has become increasingly racist over the years. To tge pount im uncomfortable. I grew up with a lot of racist relatives too but my husband bothers me because he constantly makes comments how black/ brown peopke are lazy, no good, criminals etc. Even my son picked up on it he said " negroes" the other day. If i tell him it bothers me he says " you know its true, more blacks and brown people are criminals".
I think all races have good and bad and i hate hearing it so much. Hes not a bad person in most ways and he had some bad experiences in the past with minorities. Should i just let it go and privately disagree?

Tell him you don't want to hear it and to not talk about it around your son.

Men seem to get less & less tolerant with age & certain sections of the media seem to perpetuate hackneyed stereotypes which doesn't help. Perhaps you can ask him to keep his opinions to himself, or at least away from more impressionable ears.

    • I don't think it's that they naturally become less tolerant over time, but rather that older people who don't/can't fact check their news sources are easier to brainwash. Ever notice how the one thing they have in common is watching FOX?

You could be right. The media spoon feeds it's established user base with the same old shit, they lap it up & quelle surprise, newspapers get sold & tv advertising slots get bought. The actual news becomes an irrelevance & can be manipulated as the media moguls see fit. As long as people are entertained, the employee's bills are paid & shareholders are given their dividend.

        • Pretty much this. I feel like the media intentionally split the country in the past few years. If you're a conservative, you'll get called a Nazi. If you're a liberal, you'll get called an SJW.

The good old divide & conquer. While the populace is busy bickering amongst each other over petty insignificancies, they maintain power. Changes go under the radar because everyone is too busy fighting over the aforementioned Nazi/SJW smokescreen. The colour of people's skin & religion are also excellent ways to keep people preoccupied as well.

            • Agreed. I wish people would start looking up instead of left and right for the cause of their problems. A part of me almost thinks Trump was just a plan B of sorts for once the people got tired of Obama.

You can counter him with facts - start by explaining how centuries and decades of suppression and discrimination(educationally, financially, etc) leave POC with far fewer opportunities to advance in life and leave them more more likely to turn to a life of crime to get by, then explain how the laws have always targeted POC(you think it's a coincidence that drugs that white people use - caffeine, nicotine, etc - are legal but the ones POC use - marijuana - are illegal?), then explain how a black person is more likely to be a suspect, more likely to be arrested, more likely to be charged, more likely to go to trial(less likely to get plea deal), more likely to be convicted, more likely to go to jail, and get longer sentences than a white person.

Whether you want to confront him in this manner or not, it's important that you counter him with your son. Makes sure your son knows the truth so he doesn't end up like his idiot father. Letting it go and privately disagreeing is why there's still so many people like him around. His mother probably privately let it go and disagreed and that's one of the big reasons why he is the way he is.

thank you for giving POC an excuse they need not to change. lets take your advice and see them held back for another 100 years.

Yea it's not like he's saying chucker(god I love that one) but yea that would be annoying, racism was high in my family as well, I enjoy the jokes but when it comes down to it I much prefer colored people over white people, I don't know we just get along better for some reason

so long as he is not telling lies what's the harm? if black people would stop lying to one another and stick to the truth the world would be a better place.

What's wrong with "negros", it's a term for black people, just like negroid is. They're not slang terms. Negroid is a term for a race of people.
