First, leave everything where it is. Second, research the album name and pull up a list of all the songs, then go on YouTube and listen to everything when he's not home. Don't overthink the lyrics of the songs or anything, but just listen to the tone of all the songs and get a small hint of what basic emotion he's feeling.
Once you determine what he might be feeling, try thinking if anything significant happened a few months back that he may have mentioned briefly, but didn't go into detail about (or something he did go into great detail about that bothered him a lot), then lightly ask him about it.
However, be prepare to give him space in case he may not want to open up to you.
