She definitely just used this bullshit excuse as a way to break up with you. She probably just didnt want to be in a relationship and wanted to slut herself around town.
Either way she did you a favor. If she really meant what she said about "hurting people" then she probably has no clue what being in a relationship is and like someone else said a crazy emotional train wreck.
OR like I said she just wants to slut herself out some, which is the same thing as being a full blown slut. Once a slut, always a slut. There is no such thing as being "slutty" and then "growing up", either you are a slut or you arent. Just because a drunk goes to rehab and stops drinking doesnt mean they arent an alcoholic still.
