My girlfriend moved in and turned my apartment into a dump

With all her stuff that she doesn't use and has no purpose.... I like things clean and spacious and feel extremely claustrophobic now. She's not paying rent should I tell her to get rid of her junk or move out?

You already should have known what she had in tow.

      How do you know?
      People lie, or exaggerate.
They'll say they live in one room at a friends house.
But then they move in with you and it's a big mess.
What they failed to mention was the storage trailer full of junk.
They move in and take over your house.
And yes, most of it is junk.
I've seen this play out before.
      Kick her to the curb.
Once a hoarder always a hoarder.

  • If you’re paying for the house/apartment and she isn’t, and you can’t stand her disrespecting your space, you every right to kick her out. I would, so don’t feel guilty.

    Yes, kick her out.

I think it's probably worth a discussion first maybe not throwing out an ultimatum right away. Relationships are delicate things and if you like her but have a problem with something she does it's always ALWAYS 100% better to sit and talk about it before issuing an ultimatum or a threat.

I agree. If OP didn't realise she was so messy before she moved in or no house rules were discussed, now it's got to a point where he seems to want her out of the place.

Before she moved in, did you know she was messy and did she know you were the opposite? This is the sort of thing which should be discussed by any people moving in together, whether or not they're in a relationship.

It may be too late to discuss it now, but at least give it a try before you see the only two alternatives as her getting rid of her possessions (which won't be "junk" to her) or kicking her out. Also, I suspect you're somewhat inflexible: did you expect her to move in with a backpack and a towel and nothing else? I've shared houses (briefly) with people like that and it's ridiculous.

Tell her to clean up the mess, and get rid of some of the stuff, or at least organize it. If she doesn't take care of the mess then tell her to move out.

I think hoarding is sexy. I'd say just stop being a baby, only nerds have clean living spaces.

Clean living spaces are for nerds, do you disagree with this for some reason?

Get this - I was trying to date some guy off a dating site and he had sent a few photos, selfies in front of the restroom sink. There were empty rolls of toilet paper laying around the sink. Like how much god damn effort does it take to throw them in the trash?

Empty toilet paper rolls are a waste of space unless its for the cats or rabbits to play with. Open rooms full of nothing are a waste of space once you see how much garbage can be worth.

That's not an argument. And being a nerd is not a bad thing.

I know you're trolling but honestly I would be ok with it, and hoarder's houses are kinda cool to me except for the ones who hoard old food and poop and stuff.

What kind of stuff? If it’s mostly decorative could it go on new shelves?

    in hindsight -

Didn't you have some idea that she was a slob before she moved in? USUALLY you need to have some clue of someone's living habits before moving in.

Maybe you can fix the situation but when you are the owner, renter, head of household or whatever, you need to lay down the law before they bring in so much as a stitch of clothing.

All you can do now is train her ass to keep her shit picked up.
If she doesn't like it, she can leave.

I would say make her move out if it bothers you but I imagine that would take forever...maybe that was her plan
