That's a bad idea. Not only is it obstruction of justice to lie about details pertaining to an investigation, if you end up having to make a statement in court and lie there that would be perjury.

I would tell the police I wasn't willing to talk. Don't confirm or deny that he was there. Just say you dont want to answer any questions.

First, you need to change how you think of this guy because he's not your friend. Providing false alibis can have very serious consequences for the liar, and real friends don't set you up to be charged with obstruction of justice, perjury, or maybe even something way worse.

If you're seriously considering doing this, you probably don't have a very strong social conscience and so it won't matter much to you, but if the cops were gullible enough to believe you, the false alibi you provide could result in an innocent person becoming the focus of the police investigation.

Don't volunteer an alibi and tell the truth if the police question you. If this pisses the guy off, that doesn't matter. He's not the sort of person you want in your life anyway.
