My friend says i'm schyzophrenic?

So one of my friends says I'm schyzophrenic or at least that I have split personality really often and the only reason is this: I'm usually really shy and wear dark clothes, I listen to metal music and like horrors and gore. However I'm a brony and I still like cute things like kittens or ponies. She thinks it's crazy how I can start talking from gore movies to My Little Pony. So am I normal or she's just overthinking it?

Is It Normal?

  • Actually, your friend is the type of person who has made mental illness and learning disabilities a joke. It's easier for you to anger than most people? "YOU'RE BIPOLAR!" You don't like to socialize as much as your peers? "YOU'RE AUTISTIC!" You get bored easily? "YOU HAVE ADHD!" You're organized? "YOU HAVE OCD!" These are actual conditions, and yet people are turning them into labels that simply define what people consider quirks. Lots of people are being over-diagnosed or misdiagnosed with things they don't have. These types of attitudes aren't helping anyone and are instead making mental disorders less serious than they are.

If anything, your friend sounds highly close minded. So what, you have a broad range of tastes and interests. I think that's neat. I know people who like metal music and classical music. Are they scizophrenic for liking different things? It's not that weird to be into both gore and cute things, and it is certainly not strange to be interested in gore. Why do you think Edgar Allan Poe is considered a classic? Lots of people like the macabre. There's nothing wrong with that at all. Liking blood or gore does not classify anyone as being mentally ill.

  • I'm sorry your friend is an idiot! She probably just likes to hear herself talk.

  • I don't know what schyzophrenic means, but I DO know what schizophrenic is, lol.

But to be honest, I don't think you're schizophrenic just because you wear dark clothes and listen to metal, lol. That just means you have horrible taste in music and fashion :P

  • The friend in your head?

  • Schizophrenia has almost nothing to do with what you described. But maybe you're just finding what you really like, or maybe you just want to look tough since you are a sensible person... why do you like gore btw?

    • Meh I don't really wanna look tough. And I don't know why I like gore it's just fun to watch I guess.

    • Eeek... I hate dolls! I haven't seen it by the way I just tend to hate dolls. I'm cool with Barbies but I've always hated baby dolls. I even hated them when I was three years old! Yuck.

      • I'm not trying to be rude but I thought it was a show for kids. So topics are about kids stuff?

        • It is supposed to be for kids but honestly I haven't met a kid who watches it. Actually all the Bronies I know are over 20. But the show teaches you something useful in life every episode so it's not just stupid kid show~

  • No you are totally not.

  • Its just a personal preference, most people aren't living stereotypes. I wear blue jeans and drive an old truck, but I listen to metal and classic rock.

  • Well.. it's written like that in my language sorry for that ._.

    • Actually, her friend did, but still.

Also, What we now call "Multiple personality disorder" was called schizophrenia in the past (and technically, according to the latest DSM-(IV or V, I'm not sure which),its not even called Multiple personality disorder anymore.

Schizophrenia has a different definition now than it did then.

      • You are correct. It's called Dissociative Identity Disorder, or DID, now. DID is considered a dissociative disorder instead of a form of psychosis like schizophrenia.

  • You are normal. I was like that until I went to college and got into other things. Dark clothes and make up but I loved care bears and cute things. Tell your friend to look up what it means before calling you one because how you dress and what you like does not make you one.

  • You shouldn't take it seriously unless a professional or a psychologist is telling you you're schizophrenic.
