I'm having to sponge off shit stains from the wall on a daily basis after work. My roommate is not happy about it as he is freelancing and working from home.
Maybe the shit stains are from your roommate and not from the dog since it occurs when he is at home.
If it really is the dog you might try changing its dog food to something different. You can read online about good diets for dogs that might help solve that issue. He shouldn't need to be wiping his butt everywhere.
I'm not really a dog person, but my wife is, and we've had a few over the years. They can be disgusting creatures, but I've never seen this behaviour.
They do that butt-dragging thing when they have anal irritation. Does his anal sac need draining? (Yeah, a charming topic, but that's dogs.) Does he have worms?
It could be worse, he could be smearing shit all over the soft furnishings.
Just wipe the dogs anus when it's been for a dump with some baby wipes. Oh & take the dog out for walkies before you go to work so he can defecate before you leave for the day.
I spent time in England, I had a friend there who always sent her cat out on "walkies", it's a very English term. I would ask her where her cat was, and she'd say that he's out on walkies. I liked that.
I think "walkies" was made popular by an eccentric dog trainer named Barbara Woodhouse who had very popular BBC TV series in the 1980s.
She also appeared on TV in the States, and in the below video, Mickey Dolenz of the Monkees does an impression of how she said "Walkies!" at 5:40.
