My mom usually says let nature do its thing though you may get close to your pets they are part of nature, when its time for them to go they usually walk of to find a place to pass away usually towards the woods. My aunt had her dog for about the same years you do, she was old and she said she didn't know if she should put her down. My mama told her sandy was gonna just walk into the woods. A week later sandy went into the woods and passed away naturally. I had a pet rabbit for 2 years and she lived outside my mama would say her times coming to an end and she died. If you can understand and not hold on to close to animals its not to hard, let nature be nature. We don't really hold on to animals to close we love our cats and dogs but we understand when they gotta go. Our cat was hit by a car and we were sad bit a few days later this cat came up in the yard and made itself comfortable in her favorite spot. So you loved pets might make it back to you.
