My dog hasn't got long left

I just don't know how I'll cope I'm overcome with sadness already. She's 15 and I've had her since I was 8, she's been a massive part of us. Sure I've lost pets before, but I was too little to understand or remember really. I'm already broken-hearted. Any ideas how to cope?

After she goes, don't rush the grieving process. It'll take time. Don't ever question if you've been too sad for too long, or try to force yourself to be happy before you're ready, or try to act like everything's okay when it's not. This is true when anybody dies, but I think it's especially important to remember when it's a pet...you're losing a member of the family. It's okay to grieve just like you would losing anybody else you love. Unfortunately, I don't know if there's any specific advice I can give you, it's a different process for everybody. Just surround yourself with people who love and will support you through it.

But, I do have some advice for you right now. Make the most of the time you have left with her. Make as many good memories as you can and keep her as comfortable and happy as you can for as long as you have left. That's all you can do right now.

It's gonna hurt but that's life. The things we love pass on. Just have to think about the good times you had and focus on that.

My mom usually says let nature do its thing though you may get close to your pets they are part of nature, when its time for them to go they usually walk of to find a place to pass away usually towards the woods. My aunt had her dog for about the same years you do, she was old and she said she didn't know if she should put her down. My mama told her sandy was gonna just walk into the woods. A week later sandy went into the woods and passed away naturally. I had a pet rabbit for 2 years and she lived outside my mama would say her times coming to an end and she died. If you can understand and not hold on to close to animals its not to hard, let nature be nature. We don't really hold on to animals to close we love our cats and dogs but we understand when they gotta go. Our cat was hit by a car and we were sad bit a few days later this cat came up in the yard and made itself comfortable in her favorite spot. So you loved pets might make it back to you. I hope I helped you feel better about the situation.

I'm really sorry for your situation. I'd say cherish the time you have left with her and when she goes have a proper funeral for her and scatter her ashes with your family and maybe some friends that loved her.

Grief is the price we pay for love, and you should feel no shame in your sadness, it shows you have a heart.

If you like birds I'd suggest adopting a parrot such as a macaw, their basically like dogs but live for like 50 years.

Buy a dog that looks just like her, and channel a portion of her soul into it. Seriously.

Next time get a turtle. At least that way the turtle will be the one crying in the end
