Dogs are hierarchical. He realizes you are one of many in the family (his pack), probably one of the younger & gets lots of love from you and takes it for granted. Don't worry about it.
Want him to be more attentive? Spend less time trying to prove your love to a dog. Show your love with action: take responsibility for his care. Be the one who feeds him & takes him for walks. You will see a change in attitude.
I agree! Of course, this is assuming that you aren't the one in your family who usually feeds and walks him.
Growing up, my family dogs were obsessed with my dad. It wasn't because he loved them more, or spent more time with them. He was the one who fed them and really took care of them. As my brother and I got older and took more responsibility in their care, they grew more attached to us. Think about it. Dogs are at the complete and total mercy of your family. Your family controls when he eats, when he goes to the bathroom, where and when he sleeps, when he goes out for fun. Essentially, whether or not he lives or dies! Obviously he is going to attach himself more to the people in direct control of that. If you haven't already done so, start taking more responsibility for him. Take him for walks, give him treats, be his caretaker.
