I found this post because my 15 yr old daughter and her group of friends are obsessed with Roku a Japanese Volleyball cartoon. The problem I'm having is that there's A LOT of Kinky, Homosexual content in these Anemations, not just KID stuff. All of these girls are Honors students, are involved in sports and seem to be pretty Geeky. She's even dropped Spanish class to take Chinese as one of her electives. What's a parent to do, when there are so many other things that they can be doing. I'm at a loss!!
I am now 21 and that does sound like me and my friends when we were all 15. The teachers called us the good group because trust me most other 15 year olds are doing and watching much worse (actually having sex, sexual experimenting, drinking, doing drugs or other illegal activities) It is completely fine what they are doing now. They sound like a good group of kids. It brings back happy high school memories for me. Makes me want to have a group anime binge with my friends again.
I think your talking about 'Haikyuu' and i doubt all the Kinky, homosexual content your talking about is coming from the show itself but mostly from the fandom. (Even thought some shows do have sutext on purpose to get more viewers) Trust me Haikyuu is just a sports anime and is tame compared to other genres. You see being anime is a medium it can be for all ages so there are some that would be considered 18+, so yes anime is not just kids stuff.
Your daughter and her friends are what you would call the western definition of an Otaku. Pretty sure you've heard of pokemon Go or PlayStations, Nintendo. Japans creations (Anime, manga, video games) have had a LOT of influence on the west and it even has its own sub culture, Have you ever heard of comic con (a convention fro all kinds of fans) or cospaly? Millions of people go to these, its just about having fun with thousands of people that like the same things as you. If you don't believe me look up on Haikyuu, Look up Japans culture and their outlook on certain topics and the things they have created and how it has greatly influenced the west its really not that weird or bad.
As her mother you can try to get her into other things but i would not advise you to take this away from her. Anime helped me and a lot of people growing up. I say as long as she keeps a good balance in her life then shes good, (Its just a hobby but there are some known to be TOO obsessed) at the end of the day if it makes her happy i say let her be.
My daughter is obsessed with Japanese cartoons?
