My dads trying to kill himself

My dad and mom have been together for almost 30 years. I am 17 years old and my dad believes my mom is cheating on him, ive told him hes wrong because he is and he thinks me are all against him. My dad started doing hard drugs at 14 and it messed up his head.. My dad wanta to kill himself and i dont know what to do.. Ive called a suicide prevention line but they just tried calling the cops and my dad wants to die by getting shot by the cops, idk why. Ive thought about what to do and ivw been talking to him for over 5 hours.. Ive tried everything.. He has a grand daughter coming soon and he wont even live for her.. Im lost and i dont know what to do.. Im scared and worried that he might do somthing wreckless and we will never see him again over somthing he made up in his head.. My dads tried to kill himself before, when i was 16 i found im in a bathtub and he was over dosing.. What do i do..

Make sure there's nothing he can use as a weapon against the police and then call the cops and explain the situation. The only way they would shoot him is if he's about to hurt them.

Although I have a hard time believing someone in this situation would be on a tiny website like this looking for help. If you're not a troll, go somewhere that can actually help.

You can't stop someone from committing suicide if they really want to. If he's a threat to others then he should be sectioned immediately. This is not always a bad thing as professional help will be given.

It's not a bad thing at all if a person is suicidal.

He needs antipsychotics and benzodiazepines asap. Antipsychotics will fix his delusions, and the benzodiazepines will lower his anxiety and stress levels. Benzos will also prevent him from going into delirium tremens (if he drinks heavily)

It's not your fault he feels like this and it's not your responsibility to stop him feeling like this. Professionals may be able to help, but it's certainly not your job to. You've done the right thing by calling the hotline, and either the police or some mental health professionals could help him.
Relapse is a horrible and common part of recovery, but it's part of the process.
You should definitely consider getting some professional help too, because this kinda stuff can be tough to deal with in later life in ways you won't know until you get there. Please consider alerting a trusted teacher at your school or an adult who might be able to get you a counselor.

I say this because I had some similar problems with my mum growing up, and one of my biggest regrets is not having talked about it when I was still a legal child and when it was still going on, and I feel I could've saved a lot of hard work and heartbreak now if I'd just asked for personal help, even though I thought I was strong enough to deal with it by myself and didn't need it. In actual fact I was just numbed to the pain of it, but it was still damaging me.

Seek help . You have any money saved up? Offer to take him out for a fun day , tell him how much you love him and get him out of the house and doing fun things with you , like a movie or eating or walk in the park.

Your father started doing hard drugs at 14? I'm sorry but I don't think there's a lot you can do, aside from prioritizing the health and safety of yourself and family the best you can. The human mind isn't strong enough to "will" itself away from years and years of addictions, depression and mania.

If he is a danger to you or your family, take the steps necessary to leave.

It's probably impossible to make someone who's judgement is impaired to realize that their judgement IS impaired. But you should try to get him to understand that until he detox's all the shit out of his system, he'll never be able to think clearly.

Detoxing from long term drug and alcohol abuse is one of the most difficult things you can do. It can also be very dangerous. It seems to be that he really does need time in a psychiatric hospital to detox safely. It will probably be the last thing he wants to do, but it's the only way towards a cure.
