My dad still kisses me on the lip, is it normal

My Dad has always kissed me on the lips when we say good bye when I was going to school and he still does it now that I am at collage. But one of my friends saw him kiss me and said it was weird.

I haven't got a problem with it but other people seem to think it is, so should I ask him to either stop or not do it in front of my friends?

Certain European cultures do this still. Mainly Latinos and Italians? Could also stretch to the middle East. It used to be a religious thing only

Your friends' opinions and judgments are more important than anything. You should stop thinking for yourself and just follow whatever they say.

You're friends probably don't come from families where alot of affection is shown. Their problem, not yours.

He's your dad so I would say yesโ€ฆ As long as he's not literally making out with you. Heck my mom kisses my grandmother/sisters on the mouth.

    It's normal if it's a peck.

To many families this is fine and normal. To most families this is not normal and they don't show such levels of affection. Most people will always judge others based on what their experiences and what they think is right.

It basically comes down to how much your friends' judgements bother you. I think it's great that a daughter allows her father public affection. Parents absolutely dread the day when their children pull away. Most parents can tell you the day their own kids stopped allowing hugs, or when their children stopped needing them.

But knowing this, parents understand that it's only a matter time before the kids put a stop to public affection, and I'm sure he'll understand (no matter how disappointed he will be) when you let him know that it is making you uncomfortable (at least in specific locations).

I'm a guy and when I was in Jr. High, I stopped my mom from showing such affection because the kids at school ragged on me so much. Now, it's rare when I show her the affection she deserves. I've gone so long not showing her, that now it's just really uncomfortable for me. A few years ago, I created a music video with my siblings for her on her cake-day and she was so moved that it made her cry. That's when I realized just how much she craves affection from her children.

My hot older sister started doing this several years ago during the holidays, but, only keeps it up with me. She's done it, hello and goodbye, full-on kiss, when I've had people around, my guy friends, etc, and I'm fine with it. Actually see it as showing her off. My one guy friend asked me about it one night when we were out, with a suggestive "So, dude, does that hot sister of yours always kiss you like that, for at least, what, 5 seconds?", to my answer of yes. He then said "Lucky bastard"..

Guess it depends on the person.

    CozmoWank is right.

There are more dysfunctional families out there than there are stable ones, so affectionate hugs, kisses, etc are seen as foreign, when they're completely normal. So continue on, tell your friends its considered normal in your family, and ignore the perverts on this site.

As long its I kiss and not a snog its ok but it should only happen briefly and not than a second anything more and he could be getting a sexual reaction from it, glance down at his crutch and see if he has a swelling, if your ok with it only do it in private say to him you are embarrassed kissing that was in front of others, if you enjoy it do it for longer and see what happens, let us know

I reckon that's all normal. My mum still gives me a peck on the lips when leaving as if I'm still a kid, and I'm 50!
Never a question of it being anything other than family affection.

  • I wouldn't think that there would be a problem with it as long as he's not full on making out with you, cuz that'd be weird

I dont know if it's considered normal where I live (I live in Chicago) but I don't think that it's morally wrong, either. I think it's fine for parents to kiss their kids on the lips.

It is more common in some parts and not others. I would not let other people determine what you do in your private life or family. Every family has something that makes them unique. Don't give that up for no one.

  • It is normal if you are a girl. Not normal if you are a boy.

it is unusual but I wouldn't say it's wrong if thats just his way of greeting.
