My dad locked me in my room and turned up the heat

He put the thermostat up to 90 and locked me in for 24 hours. I have no windows cause my room's in the basement. He also shut off my electricity so I was in the dark the whole time. He did this as punishment just because I was ignoring him at dinner.

You need to call the police or child protective services. Pack a bag and keep it in hiding. There are far better places for you to go. You are being abused.

Really. What this father did was not only fucked up, but dangerous. He put his kid in a situation of getting very sick from being overheated, and dehydrated too. Social services should be called immediately about this.

For something as minor as ignoring him at dinner, he sure did react severely. I don't think that's an appropriate punishment for anything.

It's possible you may be a really annoying teen, but parents don't have the right to kill their kids by hot-boxing them just because they're irritating.

Your father sounds like a controlling asshole, and one that isn't very smart as well, since prolonged temperatures like that without adequate hydration and cooling ventilation can be fatal.

I suggest that you talk to someone about this. If he reacts like that to something as minor as you giving him the sulky silent treatment, then there's no telling what he'll do if you really piss him off.

If this is serious, you need to be getting ahold of the police and social service.
He probably has you convinced that life would be worse elsewhere but if he actually does that, you HAVE to take your chances elsewhere.

If it is fake (likely) it is pretty fucked up you think posting some kind of child abuse story is comical.

My dad once locked me in the attic for 24 hours because I refused to go for a walk with him. It's not okay to lock your kids up, or anybody for that matter.

See it as a positive, you should know how to kick down a door anyway. You can live other places if you want.

    What he did was extreme.
But, don't be a stuck up bitch either.
    He pays the bills.
    He gave you life,

He's a controlling sadistic asshole. Call the police or child services or your school councilor.

The social services need to be called immediately about this. This is not normal discipline for a child, especially for something like ignoring you one night!? Fuck, I sometimes am in moods when I don't fee like talking and even don't say much to the people I love most for an evening, and decent people understand that sometimes people need space or just don't feel like talking due to being tired, not feeling well, or stressed out. This father's reaction was not only not normal, but abusive, highly unstable, and even dangerous. Locking someone in a room and deliberately turning the heat up to 90 degrees for 24 hours can give someone dehydration and even heat stroke. It's not like he did it for just half an hour or an hour, but that would've still been messed up, but for 24 hours!? That's almost up on the level as locking someone in a car with the windows up on a hot summer day. This father has serious issues and needs to lose custody over his kid for deliberately endangering their health, very likely mentally traumatizing the kid, and because of not talking for one night!? Seriously!!? Call social services!

Your dad must subscribe to some anger management program. or maybe you haven't told us all the story.

Hmm... that sounds awful. If this is real, and you are a minor report it to the authorities.

I kinda have my doubts, because I've never seen or heard of anyone turning the heat up that high in a house. He would have one Hell of an electricity bill, and maybe it could damage the unit.

This is really fucked up dude. Did you even apologize to your dad, or does he not know you're sorry? We all do wrong things dude. I think if you apologize he'll forgive you.

WTF? OP has nothing to be sorry for here! If anything OP's dad is the one who should apologize, and OP's dad belongs in jail!

Where are you from that you think in such a backward way that the parents are always right even if they are abusive? OP's dad is seriously fucked up person!

If my dad did that to me he would be very sorry!

Ahha thanks man. I'm almost certain it is. I've noticed that isitnormal.com has an inordinately high percentage of fucked up situations in which a "victim OP" is naive to the fact that is their situation is so obviously fucked.
