My cat won’t sit on my lap..

Ok, so my Cats all love me but only one of them won’t sit on my lap ( she will only sit on the cushion next to me)... I don’t know why. What do you think?

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • Try putting a laptop on your lap. Cats will inevitably sit on the laptop. You win. Also works with books and homework.

  • Cats are different, just like people. Just let them be

  • It's normal. Cats have different personalities. Try not to take it too personally

  • The cat is allergic to you.

  • Some cats are lap cats, and some aren't. My cat is always on my lap, but it's just the two of us, and he is a breed that tends to be dog-like, and very in your face.

  • This has nothing to do with hate or weirdness. Some cats like sitting on your lap and some don't, so what?

  • Try to ignore the anti-social cat completely and see what happens.

Unlike dogs, cats instinctively interpret direct eye contact as threatening. (Which is why people who hate cats often get a lot of attention from cats; the cat-hater tries to ignore the cat, and the cat interprets this as indicating that the person is friendly.)

  • What cat sits on a lap? LOL

  • The cat sits beside you. What's wrong with that?

  • Cats have personal space thresholds just like people. It's rare in my experience to find a very "cuddly" cat. Friendly cats are common, cuddly ones are rare and to be treasured.

  • Some cats aren't lap cats. I have the sweetest most cuddle puddle but he will only sit next to you and touch but not in the lap. Unless you have a sheet or blanket, then he'll stay in my lap if he's covered.

  • I have 4, and generally only one wants to sit on my lap.

  • Thanks this is helpful!

  • There could be many reasons, the cat may not like laps, may not like your lap, may not like you. They may like someone else in the household more than you, you may have pissed off your cat or the cat may just be in one of those moods.
