You don't sound like a cat person. There's nothing at all wrong with that, but maybe a cat isn't the right pet for you. I've spent time around cats and one thing I do know is that they're strong-willed. You won't change them and shouldn't even bother trying. They're cats. They do their cat things. If you love their cat things (which I do) it's fine. If you don't love it, probably best not to have a cat. Certainly so if you're so frustrated that you're thinking about letting your dog attack your cat.
I'm both. I've always had dogs and I know them inside out but cats fascinate me. They're slinky, furry little balls of amazingness. I really need to move somewhere that I can have a pet. :/
