My cat goes crazy and makes weird noises in the middle of the night

Every night it seems my neutered male cat loses his mind and runs all over the house and makes this strange noise. It kind of sounds like Rick from the early seasons of the walking dead calling for Carl, but in meow form. It's like, "meowrarrrl" but in a much deeper tone than his normal voice. My cat is American if this matters. Is this normal?

    What is an American cat? Are there any physiological differences when compared to say a cat born & raised in New Zealand?

    Does he really like apple pie or stand on his hind legs & meow loudly to the tones of the Star-Spangled-Banner?

    As for it going bonkers on a night cats are crepuscular so this may explain him going on one round your house. My parents' cats were out from dusk till dawn so perhaps he wants to go out.

    Cats are different.
    Just like people.
    Your cats just doing his thing.
    Probably just a phase, unless it's every night for weeks.
