My brain works like a duel processor?

Weird question, is it normal to have several different trails of conscious thought going on at once?
What I mean is, when I'm talking to someone, I might be thinking about what we're talking about and also thinking about what to have for dinner, and also where I'm going next, and also how Mr Person is doing today, and also what's going to happen next in that exciting series I've been watching?
I first noticed this wasn't 100% normal when people were describing "reading a page of a book, without reading it" explaining that they were thinking of something else, but I can be thinking up to about 8/9 different things with my full attention all at once if that makes sense? So I know this isn't normal, but is anyone else like this?

I'm like that too. Tis why I say I'm a scatterbrain.

It'd be super cool if there were lifebars for each of the thoughts in those duels! Round 1 - Fight! K.O. Perfect! 'Mr Person' Wins! FATALITY!

Making my thoughts fight with each other is going to be stuck in my head all day. Haha!

Haha. It's a lovely, fun image. I thank you for the typo. :)

Typical case of what we were talking about here:

In any case, my mind does that, too. It's terribly unsettling. It's a miracle I can complete certain tasks in spite of it! Unlike dappled, I have many things going on around me at all times, several browsers running, numerous tabs in each of them, TV in the background, music, multiple devices, books... Similar to what goes on inside my mind. FINISH HIM! It's something I've tried to work on more than once and failed miserably. I think it requires hardcore training to focus on one thought at a time and I often wonder how counterproductive being like that is. OUTSTANDING! Sometimes something as simple as a reply here is a duel for me and it K.O.s me.

    It's called schizophrenia.

Why would you say schizophrenia? I'm not hearing any of these thoughts as outside voices, just thinking lots of things at once.

That's "dual processor," not "duel processor." Looks like your brain doesn't work like much of anything!

Perhaps one of the processors lost the "duel".

Sounds like bipolar disorder. I'm the same way.

I don't think it's bipolar, I've never had particularly bad mood swings, and while I have been both depressed and hyper in the past, it's always been within the confines of what I'd consider normal.

I never suggested I was particularly intelligent, nor that I don't make mistakes, only that I tend to think lots of things at once. So can people please stop pointing out that I said "duel" instead of "dual". It's getting old.

Can you commit one of your "brain cores" to learn to spell "dual"?

Poly-tonic thought. Might enhance creativity, but it's a detriment if you are doing R&D. Hop yourself up on stimulants if you need to stay focused.

Yeah, I guess it'd be the opposite of having a one-track mind.

Heh! When you said "duel" as opposed to "dual", I went down the NoraBaker route and thought bits of your brain were fighting too.

But no, I can't have two thoughts at once. Douglas Adams in one of his books suggests people can have seven or eight at once but not me. I can't even have the TV on while I reply on IIN now.

Oh!!! Oh goodness! I hadn't noticed!! My phone must've auto corrected it! Unless I was tired, which may have been it.

Which book was it that he wrote that? I'm a huge fan of the hitchikers guide quadrilogy, but don't remember anything like that?

It was in one of his Dirk Gently books. I'm pretty sure it was The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul. I'd definitely recommend it to a Hitchhikers fan. I'd say it's the best of the Dirk Gently books. Same kind of humour as Hitchhikers but set on earth.

You may put it you use by learning how to spell properly while wasting time on isitnormal.com. It's "dual processor".
