My boss is annoyed with me because i refuse to use facebook?

I had it for years but all it did was make me severely depressed so I stopped using it for a few years now and it was a huge weight off my shoulders. My boss who I've been working for for several years now has mentioned us being more active on Facebook and I said I didn't use it and she seemed annoyed then but that was it. Now suddenly she wants all employees to participate in weekly community things on our Facebook page to keep our company active in the time of covid but I told her I don't use Facebook anymore it's not for me and she said just log in and participate, it's not that difficult.

I can't login. I will spiral out of control. I have so much on there that's absolutely tormenting to me. Friends who have passed away, friends who post about those friends who passed away, unread messages from people I would rather not read as it is severely personal as well as now seeing everything again and not being able to get it out of my head. I can't just login and I don't want to.

Is it normal she's making it a requirement? All my coworkers post on it all day long because they're 70 years old and it's all they know on there...

Just tell her your facebook account is suspended because of copyrighted music complaint or some shit. Tell her you are in the process of trying to recover your account but it could take a very long time.

Either that or say "no sorry, I do not use facebook and I can not do what you ask"

That bit about a suspended account is clever. I don't use Facebook, it's too much like a popularity contest in high school, or something.

          Yes, thank you very much!

I think it's really invasive for OP's boss to tell him, or her to use Facebook. It's a total lack of respect for OP's boundaries.

Make a fake Facebook account for work use.

That’s what I was going to say, make a new account, only add your boss and collages and unfollow them so their posts won’t appear in your timeline (they can’t tell if you do this).

Login at the same time everyday, make your token posts on the company page (or whatever they want you to do) and log straight back out.

See Facebook just as a tool for your job.

Set up a proxy account just for work. Don't friend people who aren't coworkers. Only like pages like the cloud appreciation society or something else pretty inert. Is your job worth being stubborn? I hate the school ap I am forced to use but I do because the times are changing. Things are really weird and we all have to make sacrifices. If you don't like Facebook, maybe suggest a different platform. Because this is well beyond your like/dislike of social media.

Ask her to use Zoom or microsoft teams, etc.

They are more professional and do not expose everyone to various other things.

Facebook is often very depressing. I have an account. I log in about once every few months to see if there's anything I really miss. That account is really there for old US Navy and School friends to find me.

I wish you well with this,

I feel your pain, honey. It's ridiculous to ask everyone to interact on Facebook!

She can't force you to use it so just stick to your guns and keep saying No, she'll back off eventually. If you want to give her another reason to leave you alone then you could say that you were addicted to it before and caused you a lot of mental health problems and took you a long time to quit.

    As others have said.
Set up a separate work account.
It's B.s. but for now you need to keep a job.
I got out of F.B. when I learned who they work with.
Keep the contacts only to work.
    DO NOT SHOW YOUR FACE.
    Use a symbol, etc.

Tell her she cannot legally force you to use facebook as that is not part of your job especially out of business hours, bonus points if you provide her with said laws. Facebook isnt a company websight and unless you running or such is part of it when employed it cant be enforced nor is using a social media page part of a contractual obligation.

If she wants you to participate suggest she remains proffesional and create a company websight that doesnt expose staff to harmful elements.

Just like with talking about wage you cannot legally be fired for it (in the u.s) if you are fired for it get a lawyer. Sue there asses off.

Laws? Normal has been thrown out the window along with the manual. You think suing will work? Court is not in session. The situation is far from ideal but pitching a fit and threatening legal action is not helpful in the slightest. But do you know what is?

Being adaptable. Rolling with the punches and embracing change is the only thing that will help right now.

Everything will go back to normal soon enough at wich point legal action can be taken, going through life is important but so is having standards. If my boss tried that shit with me I'd tell them to fuck off. If I'm not being payed they cant make me do shit. Let alone outside of my contractual obligations.

This is one of the reasons it won't go back to "normal." We are redefining normal. Why can't people see this. We cannot go backwards. Whatever job you are doing is not reflective of the majority of workers.

I’d just use it. It’s only a website so there’s really no reason to be so sensitive about it.

Just pointing out that the OP shouldn’t risk losing their job or making their boss hate them just because they want to cause a fuss over a website which they would only have to use in a limited capacity for work things. 👍🏻

          My life.
I just recommend a separate work only f account.
Because the site is activly hacked.
Right now she needs to keep a job.
But should limit her exposure on the F.
