  • Yes, it is normal for a bipolar person. But look on the bright side, when your sister-in-law called you an "unchristian woman", she was really just giving you a compliment. Seriously, though, you are NOT a bad person. You are a victim of a debilitating mental illness. Just stay on your meds this time or else you risk decompensating which will eventually render your current meds useless. Life can be good for someone with bipolar disorder. There are many mood stabilizers that are effective. My clients commonly recommend Lamictal, Abilify, Triliptal and even good old fashioned Lithium. You should talk to your shrink about trying new meds if your current ones aren't stabilizing your moods. Some people with bipolar disorder need additional meds for psychotic symptoms. Just remember to take advantage of any therapy options you might have as well. Group therapy is excellent for people in your situation because you will plainly be able to see that you are not alone and your story is shared by many MANY people. Smile because life with bipolar disorder is manageable and can be very gratifying!
