so me and my bf of almost a year go to the mall one day and we go into kate spade and we look at purses just browsing. and i see a handbag that’s like $158 or something like that. and since my bday is coming up he says that he’s taking notes on what i say i like.... he said he would drop a couple hundred for me btw too.. but today i get a text from him saying this, “if i get you a handbag would you care if it were used?” ?!?!? WHAT. i wanted to throw my phone... wtf? is that bad...? idk man, his parents give him $500 bucks a week and he can’t afford a $158 item?! i didn’t even ask for it i just said it was cute.... idk... what should i do? i told him he doesn’t have to get me that. i just feel so like not important kinda

Well if he gets that much from mommy and daddy, he shouldn't be a cheap rick, especially if he claims that he LOVES her. Besides, Women could find a flaw in a used something from 50 paces.         Yes I'd be fine with a used wallet. But no one buys used underwear unless they're fucking homeless. I'm not a cheapskate; I buy new when I should. Also you should really let your SO pick out their own underwear... it's just common courtesy. Ultimately in the grand scheme of things a used purse ranks pretty low on the list.

most guys cannot wrap their heads around spending $150 on a bag. Also just because he's given this money doesn't mean he expects to give or receive expensive gifts.

I'm not saying what he did isn't offensive, but from his perspective it wasn't a big deal obviously, or he wouldn't have asked.

Its much more important/indicative of his feelings how he treats you day to day, than mistakes he makes in a unique scenario he's unfamiliar with

Also, you never know, from that text alone he could be looking at a $400 bag that would be within his price range used, and not understand that girls don't want used designer bags for their birthday

    My advice to you is get a 4th grade math book to become mathematically literate. After you have done this, go to Wikipedia and read about the Lorenz Curve. You will learn more about the economics of wealth distribution, and why I am better than you. If you are able to comprehend everything, it could help you.
