My best friend just died and i can't stop thinking about his corpse

So last week I found out that my best friend had died, he was dead for about a week before anyone found out. I was told they knew this by the state his body was in. I couldn't stop picturing his decomposing corpse, it's all I could think about. Yesterday was his autopsy and now I can't stop thinking about his body being cut open etc.

I'm ofc very sad about his death, it hasn't really sunk in yet and I'm not dealing with it well, but why do I keep picturing such morbid things about him? It's honestly making me feel like I'm a bad person.

    When my mum passed away, I had to go to the place they took the deceased at hospital for all the formalities. I couldn't erase the image of her in that state for a long time... I think time will make it go away. Pray for him if you can.

    My best guess is you just want to know what happened to your friend. You want to know /how they died/ and what's happening right now to them.
    When my dad died I was told a bunch of things about how he died. My aunt told me he died because he slipped and fell in the bathtub, my grandma told me he died because of a major stroke, and my uncle was convinced it was suicide.
    With all these conflicting thoughts I kept picturing him dead in all sorts of scenarios. I couldn't stop thinking about it. His corpse, alone in his home.
    A few weeks after his funeral, I finally learned that he really did die of a major stroke.

    It's a way of grieving I'm sure, your mind trying to remind itself that someone you love is dead and has been dead.
