My 12 year olds weight.... iin?

My daughter has been really self-concious and has been asking me if she is fat ALL THE TIME. I dont know if she gets picked on at school or what.. But she is 12 years old and is exactly 5'0" she weighs 98 pounds. I think its perfectly normal.. But i just want to make sure. IIN?

Oke this is what you need too do. Your daughter wants to look like her mom of course so you need to let her know that you are confident with your body and be happy with it! You will see your daughter will stop asking it!

completely agree. My girlfriend and I were just discussing emulating how are mothers felt about their bodies and talked about themselves. As women in our late 20's now, we struggle with body acceptance.

You can tell her she is perfect a 1,000 times, but it's how she see's you treat yourself that's important.

I'm sure school and t.v are not the best influences.

Make sure she's not going on a verge of developing a eating disorder.

Im 5'0"....the normal weight for that height is 95-110 lbs. Just make sure...IF she hasnt gone through puberty yet, that when she does her weight doesnt get out of control. Its very difficult at that height to maintain a healthy body weight, because you want to eat as many calories..etc as your taller friends. It def shows quickly if you over eat!

When I was 12, I weighed 93 lbs. I guess it's normal. I said yes bit hit the 'no' thing by accident.

my 4 year old sister asks me the same thing. she might see things on tv that talk about weight and feel as though she is too big. but she has a very normal weight. (:

ithink it's normal these days for children to feel this way, and her weight sounds perfectly normal. i think what you need to do though is have a nice talk with her about this kind of stuff

Her weight is perfectly normal. But it is not normal for her to be constantly asking you these questions. It may be the beginning of an eating disorder for which she is passively seeking help. She is probably not getting picked on at school for her weight, but there may be other girls at her school who have eating disorders and think that they need to lose weight. Speak to your pediatrician about healthy eating for her age. Also, how did you come up with this number of 98 pounds? Girls can be very sneaky when it comes time for the scale and may put coins in their pockets or shoes, drink a lot of water before hand etc. in order to hide what they are doing. Ask her what she thinks that she should weigh, and then use a BMI calculator online or brochures from your pediatrician or school nurse to show her what is healthy for her age.

  • ciao.

her bmi states that she is a healthy weight, close to underweight so she is perfectly normal.

Im 5"3 and weigh 115 and people call me skinny and small all the time! If she feels self-concious about her body suggest something like yoga to tone up— although 12 yrs is pretty young to be needing to "tone up" it could be nice hobby that grows into a better self-esteem

  • that's completely normal. be sure to reassure her and be there for her to talk to. she has to get comfortable in her own body and have confidence, especially in this day of age! :) if she is concerned about that, i would say exercise with her! nothing too serious, but maybe go for a bike ride/run every day or every other day! or do a fun class like zumba, or even pilates! it will bring you two closer plus you'll both get fit and feel great. lastly, don't go on any diets especially for such a young age like hers, but just stress eating healthy. i preferably eat a vegetarian diet and i feel excellent from it! its much more healthy :) good luck and i hope you and your daughter have fun!
