Music was objectively better in the past

  • I've always hated ancient assholes who went on and on about how music - and basically everything else - was so much better in the old days. Since I'm now an ancient asshole myself and I know very little about modern music, I have no opinion on the relative merits of old and new.

In fact, I don't know much about music in general, but YouTube's algorithm in its great wisdom suggested a video a while back where three musicians spent about half an hour dissecting and discussing Earth, Wind and Fire's September. Almost everything they said flew over my head at an altitude of about 10,000 feet, but my takeaway was that a whole lot of really complicated shit is going on in a song that's become such a standard that most people probably consider it elevator music.

I do wonder if modern solo artists and bands have the time - never mind the talent and musical ability - to craft something on that level.
