That's a great post. Your mother believed him because she wanted to. She chose to ignore reality so she could continue seeing R. My old roommate was abused, and her mother didn't believe her for years. It's not normal, but unfortunately it's common.
I'm sorry for you. But happy to see you have built your own life and can identify the disfunction in your past so as not to do such a thing to your own child.
Don't be too hard on your mother. They make many mistakes! If we learn from the mistakes, they make us better people.
