People will believe anything if thats what they WANT to believe. She didn't want to believe that her friend would come up with such a tactless offer, and the easier explanation is that is was a misunderstanding.
Honestly if he was an adult and so were you then I don't see the problem with the proposition. Whether its driving to work or sitting in a meeting, we all do things we don't want to do for the sake of $$.
