It sounds like you have a REALLLLLLY fucked up family. If I were you, I would get as far away as possible. Do not let your mother make you do anything you don't feel is right. If you say they've never been happy for as long as you can remember, chances are they never will be. Family or not, sometimes you just have to free yourself from toxic people and toxic environments.
