For curiosity's sake? Sure they are nice to keep around. Though they are not vital for human survival.
Nor are virtual reality goggles or robots that can write poems. So why are we destroying so much to create them?
Because it's fun also it gives us something to do. It seems that human boredom will be nature's downfall.
