for some women the older men represent maturity, especially if the males their age aren't showing much of it.

the problem however is that these men might not be available - they may already be married, or just not interested.

of course that brings up another reason why some young girls are attracted to them. the older men are "safe" because the girls know they'll never really get those men anyway, so their hearts won't really be broken. but with the younger men who *are* obtainable, there's a risk of really being hurt when they say "no".
